Reporting in VTS areas

All vessels with a gross tonnage of 300 or more, or with a length of 45 metres or more, and towing vessels which together with the tow reach a length of 45 metres or more, are obliged to participate in the Swedish Vessel Traffic Services (VTS).

This means that the vessels should maintain a continuous listening watch on the VHF channel(s) assigned to the VTS area.

What VTS areas have been designated?

There are nine designated VTS areas in Sweden:

• Luleå 
• Öregrund 
• Stockholm 
• Landsort 
• Mälaren 
• Bråviken 
• Göteborg 
• Marstrand 
• Lysekil.
