All freight transported by sea must be handled in the right way, which includes correct loading segregation and cargo securing, so that it does not represent a safety risk for the ship. “Dangerous goods” refers to substances and items with dangerous inherent properties that may when transported cause injury to people, animals and environment. There are extensive regulations regarding these substances, the IMDG Code, which describes among else how the cargo must be labelled, packaged, declared and segregated in connection with maritime transport.
