Training instructor for drivers of class II mopeds, snowmobiles and light terrain vehicles (ATV)
Those who have acquired a professional qualification as a training instructor for drivers of class II mopeds, snowmobiles and light terrain vehicles (ATV) in another state within the EEA or Switzerland may apply to the Swedish Transport Agency to have these professional qualifications recognized in Sweden. Description of the profession
A training instructor for drivers of class II mopeds, snowmobiles and light terrain vehicles who require a driver's license teaches students theoretical and practical driver training in one of the following competencies:
- driver of moped class II
- driver of snowmobile
- driver of light terrain vehicle (ATV).
All licenses listed above today require a driver's license, depending on when the driver was born or if he obtained a driver's license before a certain date. Read more about driving licenses here.
The training for each qualification includes training so that the student, after passing the knowledge test, will receive a driver's license issued. In the text below, we will therefore omit the concept of driving license and instead only state the training or education of drivers of mopeds class II, snowmobiles or ATVs.
Requirements for recognition
To be allowed to teach, the instructor is required to
- has had a driving license for category A1, A2, A or B for a total of three of the last ten years
- can be considered suitable as a instructor in the education with regard to their personal circumstances
- have documented pedagogical education covering at least six months or experience of teaching for at least one year.
In addition to what is stated above, the instructor must
- have a driving license with category A1, A2, A, or
- have a driving license with authorization B, and
- have an AM license obtained through an approved knowledge test or by exchanging a driving license for a Class I moped, or
- have a valid driving license for a Class I or Class II moped, or
- have undergone driver training for category AM or a driver training for license for a moped class II, as documented by a qualified trainer.
To be allowed to teach, the instructor is required to
- have and has had a driving license for category A1, A2, A or B for a total of three of the last ten years
- can be considered suitable as a instructor in the education with regard to their personal circumstances
- have documented pedagogical education covering at least six months or experience of teaching for at least one year
- have a driving license for a snowmobile.
To be allowed to teach, the instructor is required to
- have and has had a driving license for category A1, A2, A or B for a total of three of the last ten years

- have documented pedagogical education covering at least six months or experience of teaching for at least one year
- have a driving license for light terrain vehicles (ATV).
A professional qualification as a training instructor for drivers of class II mopeds, snowmobiles or light terrain vehicles who has been acquired in another state within the European Economic Area (EEA) or in Switzerland can under certain conditions be recognized for a corresponding professional practice as a training instructor for drivers of class II mopeds, snowmobiles or light terrain vehicles. A first condition for this is that the applicant is qualified to practice this profession in the state in which the professional qualification has been acquired.
If the profession is regulated
If training instructor for drivers of class II mopeds, snowmobiles or light terrain vehicles is a regulated profession in the state where the professional qualification has been acquired, the applicant must also be able to show the qualifications or evidence of formal qualifications required to practice this profession.
If the profession is not regulated
If training instructor for drivers of class II mopeds, snowmobiles or light terrain vehicles is not a regulated profession in the state where the professional qualification has been acquired, the applicant must be able to show proof of competence for such a professional qualification. If these do not constitute evidence of a regulated education, the applicant must also be able to show that he or she has practiced the profession of
a training instructor for drivers of class II mopeds, snowmobiles or light terrain vehicles in that state for at least one year during the last ten years.
Compensation measures that may be required for recognition
If an acquired professional qualification meets the requirements for recognition for a corresponding professional practice as a training instructor for drivers of class II mopeds, snowmobiles or light terrain vehicles in Sweden, any compensatory measures may also be required. These may consist of an adaptation period or an aptitude test, and may be required, among other things, if the applicant's education for the professional qualification deviates significantly from the educational requirements set in Sweden.

- certified copy of certificate of professional experience as a training instructor for drivers of class II mopeds, snowmobiles or light terrain vehicles where applicable (read more under the tab Requirements for recognition of professional qualifications).
Application fee
No application fee is charged for applying for recognition of professional qualifications as a training instructor for drivers of class II mopeds, snowmobiles or light terrain vehicles
Processing time for the application
The Swedish Transport Agency shall make a decision within three months after receiving a complete application. The processing time may be extended by one month, if there are special reasons.
If a decision has not been made within these time limits, the applicant may request from a general administrative court, in this case Förvaltningsrätten i Falun, that the decision is overdue and the case must be decided without further delay.
Temporary professional practice
A professional who has acquired professional qualifications for professional practice as a training instructor for drivers of class II mopeds, snowmobiles or light terrain vehicles in another state within the EEA or in Switzerland may, under certain conditions, temporarily practice this profession in Sweden without prior examination from the Swedish Transport Agency.
In the case of temporary professional activity, the professional shall use the professional title of the state of establishment or, if it does not exist, state his proof of formal qualifications.
For such temporary practice, the practitioner must be legally established in another state within the EEA or in Switzerland in order to practice there as s a training instructor for drivers of class II mopeds, snowmobiles or light terrain vehicles, the profession must also be a regulated profession in that state.
If the profession is not regulated
If the profession is not regulated in the state in which the practitioner is legally established, the practitioner must have worked as s a training instructor for drivers of class II mopeds, snowmobiles or light terrain vehicles in an EEA state or Switzerland for at least one year in the past ten years. However, such professional experience is not required if the education for the profession is regulated in the state of establishment.
Responsibility of the permit holder
The permit holder for the education must check that the requirements for temporary professional practice are met, before register a training instructor for drivers of class II mopeds, snowmobiles or light terrain vehicles as a temporary professional in the driving school.

Registration
Decisions on recognition of professional qualifications are registered in the Swedish Transport Agency's register of educators. The Swedish Transport Agency supervises permit holders and instructors for such training.
