Taxi services in Sweden

The Swedish Transport Agency is responsible for issuing licenses to both taxi companies and drivers, as well as maintaining a registry of licensed drivers, companies and their registered taxi vehicles.

Taxi drivers

Only licensed taxi drivers may perform taxi services in Sweden. The Swedish Transport Agency approves drivers and issues taxi drivers’ identity cards. The card must be prominently displayed in the vehicle so that passengers can see it.

Taxi companies

Only licensed taxi companies may offer taxi services in Sweden. The Swedish Transport Agency administers taxi licenses. 

Taxi vehicles

Taxi companies may only use taxi-registered vehicles. Taxi vehicles must have yellow number plates and a taximeter installed.
