Commercial transport

The Swedish Transport Agency has the overall responsibility for commercial transport on roads in Sweden.

Derogation from driving and rest times pursuant to Art. 14 (2) of Regulation 561/2006

In response to the extraordinary crisis situation due to the pandemic of COVID-19 (Coronavirus), Sweden has adopted a temporary and limited relaxation of the enforcement of driving and rest times for the drivers of vehicles transporting all types of goods and transport of passengers.

This temporary relaxation applies from 2022-02-01 and will run until 2022-03-03. It will apply to all drivers, irrespective of their nationality, when operating on the territory of the Member State.

We have the overall responsibility

The fact that we have overall responsibility for commercial transport on roads in Sweden means that

  • we make and implement rules and regulations for driving and rest periods,
  • professional competence for professional drivers and prospective licence holders,
  • scheduled service licences
  • governing the measurements and weight of heavy vehicles.

The objective of our work is to help achieve efficient commercial transport that is safe and environmentally friendly and which is run by firms that operate on equally competitive terms.
