Information regarding block permits for traffic to and from the United Kingdom
Since 1 January 2021, the United Kingdom is no longer a part of EU’s internal aviation market. A traffic permit is therefore necessary in order to perform commercial traffic, both scheduled and non-scheduled, to and from the United Kingdom.
Considering the amount of ad hoc charters between Sweden and the United Kingdom, the Swedish Transport Agency has introduced a possibility for airlines from the UK and the EU to apply for a block permit.
Direct ad hoc charter
Airlines from the United Kingdom and from EU who wishes to perform direct non-scheduled services between Sweden and the UK, that is from a point in Sweden to a point in the UK (3rd and 4th freedom rights), can apply for a traffic permit called a block permit. A block permit is valid for 6 months, encompassing an exemption from the requirement to apply for a traffic permit for each individual flight. If you wish to extend the permit and exemption, the Swedish Transport Agency needs your application at least two weeks before the permit expires.
